1984 presentation

so i finally did my presentation. i thought it was going to be alot harder but it went pretty good. i talked about the summary and how "big brother is always watching" i dont think i could ever live in a world like that. i related it to the class by saying how theres no privacy no matter where you are. even with the internet, you might think you are alone but someone is always watching.

Continue blogging?

so i wont lie. i dont know if i will continue to blog. i've never really dont it before. its kind of a cool way to put down my thoughts so im not going to say i never will again, but not that much probably. there is one blog that really did get my intrest. lynetta posted it on one of her blogs for fun. it was the one where you send your secrets and then they post them. that just seems interesting to me. i wanna hear what people have to say. but as for me bloggin myself, im not sure how often it will be.

Guest speaker: Kevin Freitas

so i found his presenatation was very...'upbeat'. i was really surprised about his "journals" and how many he had. that was crazy! i dont think that i could ever do all that. im not really a journal person. it was interesting because before class i talked to him and he said that his company designed my high schools web page. and so i thought that was pretty cool. he seemed like a pretty cool guy and seemed to really enjoy and love his job.

Dot.com to Dot.bomb

so this was an interesting presentation. i really like the origami dinosaurs. im more of a visual person so when i could actually kind of see what was going on it made more alot more sense to me. being able to see helps keep my attention. im like a little kid that has to have bright or shiny objects to keep me interested. lol. i kinda remember what the presentation was about but its hard to remember the specific details. i will say tho, that is one lecture that is my fav. and one i will remember.

traveling online

so traveling online....i got to experience of it a few weeks ago. i had to plan a trip to hawaii for me and my friend. we were going down for tryouts and i didn't trust him making the plans so i decided i would take the responsibilty. i searched a bunch of websites for good flight deals. i happened to find hawaiian airlines and they had a spring special so i had to tell them the dates and how many people i was flying down with. i found it really easy actually. im sure if i needed to find a hotel and a bunch of other things they would be available for me to find too. when we did the scavenger hunt and had to plan the trip to disneyland, i found it really easy; they even asked you what kind of breakfast you wanted to have. everything in our world is becoming easier and easier. i remember whenever my family planned trips when i was younger we had a travel agent and you probably dont even need one anymore.

3 communities!

one community that im involved in is myspace. almost everyone is...lol. its a community because you can connect and meet new people from almost anywhere. you dont necessarily have to have a common goal or interest like some places. you can chat about anything you want. you post anything you want. theres a few limits, nothing to explicit, but sometimes things like that slip through. i mean it can be pretty safe if you arent too stupid. like dont go around handing out ur number or address or talking to weirdos or people you dont know. just stick with your friends and you should be fine. once in awhile there might be someone who hacks into your account, its happened to me before, and yes it sucks but just delete if it really bothers you.

another community that i was involved in like a really long time ago was the brittney spears fan club...hahaha i kno i was nerd. it was a community because everyone in it shared a common interest of her music. they would post events that would go on and important dates. i felt so cool back then and now looking back i was such a nerd. it was a way for me to talk to other people about my thoughts on her music and see if they thought the same thing.

another community that i am involved in is facebook. its very similar to myspace. at first it was only for college students and you had to use a college email to make sure you were in college. now they changed it to where anyone can join. maybe they did this to get more users? probably. i kinda like facebook better because it isnt so flashy all the time, you can edit your background or have music on your page. it was cool at first but then it just got annoying. also at first facebook you could have WAY more pictures and albums but not myspace you can too. although in facebook your friends are way more organized which i like way better. so its basically like a more sophisticated myspace in my way of thinking...

biggest purchase thats would be comfortable making...

I dont know exactly what it would be. I know I have made some big purchases, but nothing HUGE. I think the biggest thing I have purchaseed was my old cell phone, which i wont ever do again. It sucked because if something happened to it I couldnt take it in the store to get it fixed I had to call over the phone and it was terrible. I think it all depends on what the product was in order for me to make my decision if it would be worth purchasing. No matter what it is always safer, i think at least, to purchase something in person rather than online. that way you can see what your buying and ask any questions right then and there. also you get ur purchase right away and dont have to wait for weeks or days or however long it takes.

Making a Community...

In order to make a community, the main ingredient you need is people. once you have that, those people should share a common goal or interest. without having an interest then it would just be a random site of nothing basically. but i guess that could be a community too. all the people have a interest of not having smiliar interests? make sense? sort of... anyways. once you have your community it is important to keep it going. people need to keep blogs and write comments and make their community even larger. they can invite more people which obviously will then make it bigger. it doesn't take much to make a community, even if its just a small one, its still a group of people with common interests.

Topic for Presentation

So i'm not going to lie. I have no idea what I'm going to read yet. I know its coming up and so I'm going to need to choose very soon and get on to my reading. I have to make sure I find an interesting book otherwise this presentation is going to be very hard for me. I took this class so I could learn more about these things and so I'm going to try my hardest. Its kind of hard for me to choose though because I read the back of book and since I have no clue what its about I dont know if its going to be good and interesting for me or not. I guess I will have to see what happens and hope for the best!

Services avilable

I dont think I can even imagine how many services that are available for us online. You can basically live your life and do anything online now days. You can get your grocerys delivered, pay your bills, go shopping for clothes and electronics, or meet your future spouse, get help with homework, take classes, get advice with medical issues. Anything you think of you can probably do online. Our society is becoming so lazy and relying so much on the internet we have forgotten what it used to be like. I can understand paying bills online, becuase its easier and faster. Maybe getting groceries delivered if your really busy or old. Buying clothes if they dont have them in the store. Meeting a partner? I think that people need to go out and meet people on there own. Thats how these crazy rape and kidnap stories come up, because some people are stupid and just go meet random people from the web who they dont even know! I also think if you have a medical problem you should get your butt to the doctor to get it fixed, unless its like a nosebleed or a minor cut. To me these services are good but at the same time they are just making us become more lazy.

Comfort of purchasing online

I wouldnt say I'm completely against it but i just dont do it that much. There are some things that I will do, such as buying ringtones, or paying for college things, like bills or just recently i had to send test scores. Ummm those kind of things I do without even thinking that I could be gettin ripped off because its from an "official" site. I guess I'm kind of vulnerable to anything. When a site seems legit and its the main website for whatever I'm looking for I dont think to much that it could be a fake. I dont buy to many clothes or shoes because I never know how they will fit on me. I haven't boughten really any electronics but its just because I go to the actual store and get it. I also think another reason I don't is because it takes to long to get it. I'm very impatient and so when I buy something i want to wear it, use it, and have it right when I buy it and I cant do that with online purchases. But like i said, i'm not against it.

Exit 133

I wasnt in class for this guest speaker but i went to the website. I found it interesting because its all about Tacoma. It tells about events and business and real estate and some historical facts. It is a good way for a person living in Tacoma to stay updated about their city they live in. I think that I like most is the name of the blog, Exit 133. It is the most creative and cool name. Thinking about it, that exit is the door to Tacoma in some way. There are obviously other exits but that is the main one that leads to the heart of the city, Downtown Tacoma. When Professer Fry first told us about it I was confused but now it completely makes sense. Maybe one day I will be able to have a cool page with a really cool name like that...hehe!

Email vs. the slow mail

So I can't stand sending mail the normal way but I will admit I love getting it. I just feel so important...lol. It means someone took time to actually sit down with pen and paper and fill out an envelope just for me! Writing an email to someone is pretty easy now and doesnt take too much time. You just type what you want to say and then push send and your done. Although I do like email because if your typing to your friends you can short hand most of the words. i never wrry bout puncuation or grammar when im typing in an email. i can say g2g instead of actually writing out got to go or ttyl instead of talk to you later. those sort of things make a big difference. and so now when i write papers i do that on accident so i just have to be careful. so overall...email is way better and SOOO much faster since its like instant. the only good thing about normal mail is that its fun to get...hehehe!

Publishing

I don't read too much publishing...well printed that is. Most of the news or information I get is from the TV or sometimes online. I like to go and read what my friends have to say on myspace or facebook so i guess that counts? maybe?!? The only time I really read the newspaper is when I read the sports section. I like to read about UW sports and my old high school, just to see how they are still doing. That to me is the most interesting section in the paper. I still haven't gotten to the stage in my life where the rest of it is interesting to me...lol. O i also read magazines. But the girlie, fashion kind, like Seventeen or Cosmo. It keeps me up to date with the "in styles", lol. Once in awhile I'll be at my friends house and he will have a Science magazine that he wants me to look at and he shows me all the new gidgets and gadgets that will come out in a few years or that are already out, so those are sometimes interesting too. So I guess from what I just wrote I can take back what I said about not reading printed material cause I guess I do, more than I think actually!

HTML

This was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. When I was doing it I had no idea what I was doing. I was just following the directions. I didn't know what any of the stuff meant. It was all in gibberish to me. When I first read over the directions I was like o crap, im screwed. But then when I started I was like this is pretty easy. After when I saw the end result I was like WOAH thats crazy! I had no clue it was going to turn out like that. I never use Word like that and maybe I will some day. I just use it to write papers, like most college students. I don't really go in depth about the program. I just need to know how to double space things, change the font and size, and maybe a few other things. If it becomes more complicated than that, well count me out. But like I said, this wasn't too bad. It was interesting to me acutally. To think and see that I actually did that. Hopefully one day, like after this quarter is done, I will understand what I did and maybe know how to teach someone how to do it to!

Vanity Search

So I typed alot of different things in to see what I could find. I tried just my name, my name plus other things such as Puyallup, UW cheer, Dance, and Bellarmine. Most of them just came up with random people that I don't know. There was one thing that I found that had to do with me. I typed in Elizabeth Hamann, Bellarmine. About a year ago last month my dad passed away so obviously we had an obituary. The link took me to the online one and my name was in it and it said that donations could be made under my name and sent into Bellarmine. http://www.legacy.com/Tribnet/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=17107318. I'm surprised nothing when I typed my name along with dance because I have won some awards and I know they post the winners on their websites. O well! In some way its a good thing that you can't find stuff about me by typing my name online! I feel safe now knowing that...hehehe!
